The project featured bespoke joinery, intricately constructed bar counters, architectural finishes and a tailored interior scheme that supports vibrant hospitality use.

The Challenge
Hugh Stirling was appointed in September 2019 by Signature Pub Group, working with Tibbatts Abel Interior Designers and Ian Forbes Architects, to undertake a specialist fit-out of McLarens on the Corner, a prominent bar and restaurant located in a former bank building at Holy Corner in Edinburgh. The client’s brief was to transform the building into a vibrant, multi-space venue that would include multiple dining and social areas while celebrating the heritage of the historic corner site. This vision included four distinct bar counters, feature fireplaces and detailed interior joinery elements that needed to feel rich, welcoming and true to the design intent.
The Solution
Over a two-month programme, Hugh Stirling delivered a full fit-out encompassing a range of bespoke joinery and specialist works. The scope included:
Manufacture and installation of four custom bar counters and gantries, each crafted with a mix of premium materials including marble, hardwoods, polished brass and mirrors.
Feature wall panelling and panelled hardwood doors tailored to the interior architecture.
Creation of feature fire tables with engineered marble tops, polished plaster, polished brass fire baskets and copper fire hoods, adding warmth and visual focus.
Bespoke installations in bathrooms, kitchen areas and all primary public spaces, including hardwood flooring, tiling and superior finishes.
The integration of high-quality materials and precision craftsmanship helped realise the client’s design aspirations, resulting in interiors that are both visually striking and highly functional for daily hospitality operations.
